The town of Ashford lies on the River Great Stour, M20 motorway, South Eastern Main Line and High Speed 1 railways, in the borough of Ashford, in Kent, England. Its agricultural market is one of the most important in the county. Ashford is a relatively common English placename: it goes back to Old English aescet, indicating a ford near a clump of ash-trees. The Original Ford from which Ashford, Kent takes its name lies within the parish of Christ Church at Trumpet Bridge on Beaver Road.
